The Interdisciplinary and Individualized Major Programs Network is an informal organization of individualized major programs, liberal studies programs, and interdisciplinary programs at colleges and universities across the United States and beyond.
If initially the emphasis was on individualized major programs, the network has increasingly included liberal and general studies programs and interdisciplinary programs that emphasize creative inquiry and problem-solving. We have found common ground around our goal to provide motivated and self-directed students opportunities to nurture their curiosity, cross disciplinary boundaries, and integrate experiential opportunities into their learning. In short, our programs encourage students to shape their own education.
The Goals of IMP:
* to share information among programs about best practices and solutions to common challenges.
* to organize a regular conference to bring together faculty, staff, and students of such major programs.
* to serve as a resource to colleges and universities considering the creation of such programs.
